2016 was a pretty good year. Here is a look back on some of the highlights of my past year.

Visiting Washington DC

We had visited  DC about five years ago and had always wanted to return, so this year we decided to get there by train. I had never traveled by train before and it was a lot of fun. This was also our first car-less vacation so it was an adventure to navigate the city through metro rides and buses.

Sewing Machine

I had been wanting a sewing machine for a while, and when one showed up on sale at our favorite grocery store, Aldi, I threw it in the cart without thinking twice.

Sewing a Dress

In the summer I started the overly ambitious project of sewing a dress for Halloween. I’d never sewed anything very complex before, and I ended up not even using a pattern because I couldn’t find one I liked. It ended up looking a bit ragged, but that was just fine for a creepy Halloween dress.

New Job

Probably the best thing that happened this year was getting a job that was perfect for me. I work a a regenerative medicine center and grow organs and tissues for clinical trials. I like everything about it, and have the best boss, fun coworkers and a desk with a view of downtown!

Pastel Hair

I added some lavender color to my hair in the spring, and ever since then I have had some sort of pastel color in my hair. Life’s too short to have normal hair!

Beluga Whale

A late night trip to Walmart involved us throwing this Beluga Whale in the cart, laughing at how funny he looked riding around, and then taking him home. The Beluga Whale is a great addition to the house.

Volt

It was time for a new car so we decided on this 2013 electric Chevy Volt! Both our cars were close to 20 years old so driving this car has been so great.

Paid Off

We were able to pay off our house this year! We bought it foreclosed at a very low price, so we threw any extra money we had towards paying it off. Now I can’t wait to start some remodeling projects.

Beach Trip

We took our yearly trip to our favorite seaside town of Atlantic Beach. I love it there!

Construction

There has been plenty of construction going on around the city. I love capturing the progress of it.

Plane Ride

I hadn’t ridden in a plane since I was four, so I decided it was time to go for a ride. Our plane was smaller than a train car and I was so freaked out that I couldn’t look at the window for the first 30 minutes. But I am ready to do it again because I love traveling!

New York City

The plane ride took us to NYC!  I had been dreaming of visiting NYC during Christmas time and I am so excited we finally got to do it. The city was so much fun and I want to go back.

2016 was an exciting year all around. The only negative thing in it for me was that disaster of an election, but I am trying to keep my mind off that for my own sanity. I hope 2017 brings more travel, lot of fun projects,  and exciting adventures.

And maybe a new camera because mine is in the process of dying 🙁

Happy New Year everyone!

  1. This was a lovely post to read! So many nice and happy moments to look back on and I’m glad you’ve had a good year. I love your Halloween dress you made, it’s stunning and the beluga whale is so, so cute! I love your new hair too, very cool. All the best for you in 2017! – Tasha

  2. What a year you have had! I have thoroughly enjoyed following along too and cannot wait to read all about your 2017! I want to hear all about your NYC trip so I can reminisce about our trip from last Christmas.

I do love your hair, the colour and the style. I fancy something new for my own hair, so I might take a little inspiration from yours.

    Happy 2017 to you!!
